Narrative
EDGEWATER, MD – A 19-year-old man died Saturday after a two-vehicle crash along the highway in Edgewater.
The accident occurred around 1 p.m. on the northbound side of MD-2, or Solomon’s Island Road, at South River Road South. This is just south of the South River Bridge.
Police say the victim was headed northbound on a 2020 Yamaha motorcycle when he struck the passenger side of a 2003 Ford Expedition as the latter vehicle turned left onto South River Road South.
The motorcyclist, identified as Daniel Joseph Helmly Jr., sustained fatal injuries.
Medics transported the 52-year-old driver of the Ford to the hospital with non-critical injuries. It’s unclear if any passengers in her vehicle sustained injuries.
